To celebrate the start of Britain’s biggest motorcycle show, the best of British racing talent will be out in force as part of a grand opening ceremony that will see MotoGP star Cal Crutchlow fire up his Yamaha M1 machine on the Black Horse Stage – kicking off Motorcycle Live 2011 in deafening style.

Crutchlow will be joined by the very best of British racing talent, including current World Supersport Champion, and Fast Bikes columnists, Chaz Davies and double World Superbike Champion James Toseland. Moto2 rider Bradley Smith and 125GP contenders Danny Webb and Taylor MacKenzie will also be there.

Adding to the incredible sound of a Yamaha M1 being fired up, there will also be a Moto2 race bike adding to the noise, provided by FTR Moto. The combined roar of the two world-level race engines will mark the opening of Motorcycle Live 2011, where visitors can feel, touch, smell, ride and experience the very best that motorcycling has to offer.

“We wanted to do something totally different to open the show this year – something that represents what Motorcycle Live is all about,” explains Finlay McAllan, Managing Director of organisers MCI Exhibitions. “By having the two bikes fire up on stage, we are really bringing home the message that the ‘live’ element is not just a name. To tie this in with a celebration of British talent seemed very fitting. British racers are really making their mark on the world stage and it’s only right that the biggest bike show in their home country celebrates that fact.”

Once you’ve recovered your hearing, there’s plenty to do at Motorycycle Live this year – including two-wheel taster sessions in the Get On Arena, off-road experiences, on-road test rides, trials riding and of course, the experts will be doing their thing in the Ramp’d Up Freestyle Motocross Arena. This will all be accompanied by non-stop entertainment and appearances from racing stars and biking celebrities. The ticket price for Motorcycle Live 2011 is completely all-inclusive, meaning visitors can enjoy everything the show has to offer at no extra cost. Tickets are £16 in advance for adults, £10 for seniors, £6 for children aged 6-16 and kids under five accompanied by a paying adult go free.

Donington Park has received its official homologation from the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme), giving the Leicestershire venue the green light to host the European round of World Superbike Championship from 25-27 March.

The FIM conducted its final circuit inspection on Friday, to ensure that the revamped track meets with the organisation’s strict regulations. Major investment over the past five months brings the venue in line with other top European, Middle Eastern and Asian circuits in terms of safety standards.

Just one day before the inspection, Donington Park opened its doors for the first No Limits track day of the year with over 200 riders on track. “Hearing the sound of motorcycles on the track again really was something special,” said Donington Park Racing’s Chairman Kevin Wheatcroft. “The whole team deserves appreciation for their hard work in getting to this point. With the time lost due to bad weather over the winter, the major effort has had to focus on restoring and preparing the track itself to meet FIM regulations and bring World Superbikes back.”

Donington Park’s focus on creating a positive experience for the fans includes new and improved spectator areas, specifically at Redgate Corner and Hollywood bank. A new section of the infield will be open to the public, accessed via the Esses Tunnel and allowing fans to watch the racing from Redgate, Hollywood, Craner Curves, the Old Hairpin and right up to McLeans. Access into the circuit has been greatly improved (thankfully) with the addition of a new main entrance near the Exhibition Centre at gate 20, allowed by the removal of the railway carriage. Five permanent WC blocks will be completely revamped in time for World Superbikes with new fittings and lighting to greatly improve the standard of the facilities – so you might even be able to take the missus without her complaining about all the wee on the floor…

We can’t wait to get back to Donny – it’s fantastic to see the circuit coming alive again – see more on their website, where you can also buy tickets for WSB (or call 0844 873 7343 to order).
