2011 MV Agusta F3 Breaks Cover

MV Agusta has released images and first details of the new inline-triple 675 engined F3. Apparently it’s a “new work of art on wheels is arriving that will upset the balance of power”. We reckon it’s more likely to find itself battling the spookily similar Triumph Daytona 675 – about to be further strengthened by an ‘R’ variant.

The mantra from the Castiglioni crowd’s Cascina Costa factory is ‘light weight, power and electronics working in complete harmony’. And who knows, they might just pull it off.

The styling is pure MV Agusta, sharing much of its look with the F4, but with the notable change to a radical triple pipe side exit exhaust.

The inline 675cc three cylinder apparently ‘plays homage to the most victorious motorcycle brand in the world’ – they mean MV, not Triumph here, as the Italians raced inline triples with huge success long before most of us were born.

The engine is claimed to be incredibly compact, even within the category, and MV also claims sector topping power figures. The motor features a counter-rotating crankshaft, and an all-new engine control system, with rider input coming via a ‘Ride By Wire’ multi-mapped throttle. MV has also thrown its traction control system at the F3, to ensure some headline grabbing.

The frame comprises a mix of steel tubing and aluminum side plates that wrap around the ultra compact engine, all helping to keep the overall dimensions tight, while a long single sided swingarm provides stability and feedback to the rider. A fully adjustable Marzocchi fork looks after the front, while a fully adjustable Sachs shock looks after the back.

Braking is provided by Nissin radial master cylinder and Brembo radial calipers and discs.
