2014 Ducati Monster 1200

2014 looks set to be brimming with badass naked bikes (naked BMW S Thou’ coming soon) and Ducati has jumped in with the awesome-looking Monster 1200 and 1200 S. Celebrating its 21st birthday, the Monster family has grown with the all-new 2014 Monster 1200, packing a 145bhp superbike-derived 1198 motor, housed in an all-new chassis that weighs an impressive 182kg in dry form.

‘Standard’ 1200 still looks sharp

The Mosnter’s chassis uses the signature trellis frame as the core, while gaining a semi-monocoque function: the frame’s attachment points are fixed directly to the new engine’s cylinder heads. Geometry wise, the wheelbase is 60mm longer than the previous model to boost stability, and the ‘bars are 40mm higher and closer to the rider.

The standard model sits on 43mm Kayaba suspension at the front and a Sachs shock supporting the rear, and the S model is sprung by Öhlins front and back. Both models feature Ducati’s Safety Pack, with 3-level Bosch ABS and 8-level traction control, and Ducati’s Ride-by-Wire allows 3-way riding modes. We cannot wait to sample this puppy.
